Types of Cardiovascular Activities

There are different types of cardiovascular activities for everyone!

"Grandma started walking for her health when she was 60. She's now 97 and we don't know where she is!"

Luckily, there are many different types of cardiovascular activities to choose from. Whatever your age, whatever your tastes, there is an activity that is right for you.

You can train indoor or outdoor. Morning or evening. From a club or from home. The choice is almost limitless.

The activity you choose should be enjoyable.

If it’s too monotonous, too harsh on your joints, too difficult to get into consistently, you will hardly summon the motivation necessary to adhere to your fitness workout program over the long haul.

But keep in mind that your cardiovascular activity or aerobic exercise should also reflect your current fitness level, exercise experience, exercise goals, as well as your personal preferences.

The primary purpose of aerobic exercise is to make your heart muscle stronger so it can become more efficient at circulating oxygen to every cell of your body.

Examples of aerobic exercise:

The types of cardiovascular activities available to you for achieving just that- include walking, hiking, jogging, running, cycling, stair climbing, rope jumping, swimming, rowing, dancing, skating, cross-country skiing, and all types of aerobics classes or other endurance activities.

Some of the ‘aerobics’ workout innovations available today include classes such as step aerobics, water aerobics, spinning, and dance aerobics combining yoga, martial arts, boxing, kick-boxing, African, Caribbean, salsa, hip hop, rock, and jazz.

There are also many different types of exercise equipment to facilitate your participation in cardiovascular activities.

Some of these include climbers, elliptical trainers, stationary cycles, recumbent cycles, recumbent steppers, stepmills, treadmills, rowers, riders and ski machines- to list just a few…

Any of these types of cardiovascular activities will help you derive the many cardiovascular fitness benefits that come with engaging in regular physical activity.

It’s no wonder the many types of cardiovascular activities just listed above, are often considered the ‘activity of choice’ for anyone at any age.

Such a wide range of possibility permits people of all ages with differing abilities, skills, and equipment availability, to participate in activities of their choosing in which each will derive enjoyment and satisfaction- as they work toward their goals.

Get active your way.

Many people want to get active but are being held back. Indeed, they are searching for the elusive secret to how to find the motivation to get started and keep at it.

Everyone has their own way. And of course, you can find lots of tips and advice on how to do just that.

Some even elaborate at length to explain how to start.

I was looking for a way to say it succinctly in three words or less.
Peter Nivio Zarlenga, the founder of Blockbuster Videos, I believe said it best:

He said, "To begin, begin."
